Kathmandu, May 26 (RSS): On Saturday, 35 metric tons of garbage was collected from the Kathmandu Valley-based various rivers and the ring road area.
Under the 263rd week of the Bagmati Cleaning Mega Campaign, the Mahadevsthan area in Koteshwor was cleaned with the collection and management of five metric tons of river waste.
The high-powered Bagmati Civilisation Development Committee, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nyano Sparsha, Muktinath Development Bank, Reikui Nepal, and the Thakuri Society contributed to the Campaign aims to restore the glory and beauty of the historic river. Over 375 people participated in the campaign, according to campaigner Mala Kharel.
The Blue Cross Society has been providing medical teams with the ambulance services for the Campaign. Nepali Ambassador for China and former chief secretary, Leelamani Poudel, who holds the credit for making initiations for coming up with the Mega Campaign, was also present on the occasion.
Under the cleanliness campaign above the Guheshwori area, the Kolmati Rive bordering the wards no 2 and 4 of Gokarneshwor Municipality was cleaned with the collection of one metric river waste, as stated by Uttam Pudasaini.
High Powered Bagmati Civilisation committee chair Narendra Raj Basnet and project chief Ashish Ghimire were also the part of the event.
Likewise, during the 218th week of the Rudramati Cleanliness Campaign, the Ratopul-Kalopul-Sifal area was cleaned and one metric ton of garbage was managed. On the occasion, a public awareness campaign on the importance of keeping the river was also organised.
Similarly, in the 190th week of Bishnumati Cleanliness Campaign, the Siddheshwor area of Tokha Municipality-9 witnessed a cleanliness campaign and one metric tons of garbage was managed with the participation of 350 people including from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and teachers and children from three schools, according to campaigner Bijen Lama.
The Manohara River Cleanliness Campaign entered its 61st week of its launching Saturday. Under the campaign, the Jadibuti vegetable market based in Kathmandu Metropolis City-32 was cleaned with the participation of over 100 people, said campaigner Chandra Dangal.
In the 59th week of the Chakrapath Cleanliness Campaign, an area stretching from Airport to Singamangal was cleaned. Over 450 people including NA, Nepal Police personnel and representatives from Nyano Sparsha and Kathmandu Valley Development Authority joined the campaign, as stated by programme coordinator Lok Bahadur Tandon. Eighteen metric tons of waste was managed from the area.
Similarly, the Matrishakti Cleanliness, on the occasion of the Aaloknagar Area Cleanliness Campaign, one metric of waste was gathered and managed, according to campaign coordinator Pramila Poudel.
Under the 41st week of the Chakrapath Bafal Section Cleanliness Campaign, a cleanliness event was held from Syuchatar to Bafal bridge and seven metric tons of waste was managed, according to event coordinator Tara Bahadur Kunwar.
In many city areas, collected garbage was piled up on the roadside due to problems of transporting the materials to Sisdole Landfill Site.
Having influenced by the Bagmati River Cleanliness Mega Campaign, river and local areas cleanliness campaigns have been launched at local levels as well.
